Allow me to introduce myself: I am Isidro Cruz, I came to Huatulco when I was seven years old, over 35 years ago. I have been a fisherman all my life and I have been taking people fishing for more than 20 years now.
It will be my pleasure to take you fishing, whether you would like to troll for Sailfish or prefer bottom-fishing for Red Snapper. The best time to go out is early in the morning, at 7:00 am and we usually get back at 11:00 am. We can stay out longer, that's up to you. I provide water, soft drinks and beer during the trip and I am more than happy to pick you up from your hotel in the morning.
In general we catch & release. However, if you decide to bring back a Tuna or a Dorado for your own consumption, no problem. Many restaurants will gladly prepare it for you, usually for a small charge or in exchange for the fish you can't eat yourself. If you would like to prepare it yourself, I will fillet it for you if you wish.
Below you can find information about the fish you can catch here in Huatulco, the best time of the year to catch them and my equipment.
Fish & Seasons
From November to April is the best time for:
Crevalle & Amber Jack
From June to October is the best time for:
Blue & Black Marlin
Bottom-fishing is good all year. Here are some examples of what you could catch:
I have large assortment of equipment to catch any type of fish that you may encounter in our coastal area. My equipment is PENN International. It is all in good condition and well maintained and I regularly buy new equipment to keep up to date.
I use a variety of lures, as well as bait. I have monofilament of 25 lbs to 70 lbs, I generally use 60 lbs or 70 lbs.
For trolling I use PENN Intl. 50 SW reels (03, 06, 09) and I have a wide variety of PENN rods of various models and sizes available.
For bottom-fishing I also have many different reels and rods available.
My boat is the "Paty" and she is a 25 ft "panga". It is licensed for 10 passengers, but for fishing I normally take 4 passengers maximum.
She has a 60 hp Yamaha outboard engine and a 40 hp outboard as a back-up. I have GPS on board, as well as a compass, a radio, a cell phone and life jackets. I also bring coolboxes for the drinks and for fish you would like to bring back to shore.
She has a little sunroof to provide some shade.
"A big thank you to Isidro for the fishing trip. I would like to mention that Isidro did a great job even though the fishing was slow. His handling of his boat sure was necessary when the conditions turned sour on Sunday. I think if we had been out with somebody with less experience the outcome of the trip may not have been a happy one. The waves made for a long hard trip back to shore but he handled his boat very professionally and it was a safe (but wet) trip back. We will book another fishing trip with him on our next trip down."

"Our fishing trip with Isidro was one of the best charter trips I have ever been on. As I'm sure your aware Isidro is very focused on the fishing and doesn't seem content to just take his clients for a boat ride. We caught many fish and saw lots of turtles and dolphins as well. I think the best part was when I gave him a tip, he was humbly thankful and then I gave him a baseball cap from the company I work for. He had such a smile on his face that I think he liked that gesture more than the tip. What a wonderful man."

"The service was excellent, beginning with the online booking and ending after a perfect day fishing!"
Kathy, Chicago, IL, USA - August 2007
"Great service, Isidro is very knowledgable and knows what he's doing. His gear is in excellent condition and his boat, although small, is in top shape. We went out further than I thought we would, but I always felt safe. I can only recommend his services, he even picked me up from my hotel!"

"Isidro Cruz is a real fisherman's guide. He knows what he's doing, has good equipment and takes his work seriously. He isn't a hustler. No hype, no exalted claims, no fluff. He is honest, straightforward and trustworthy. If he hasn't been catching fish, he'll be the first one to tell you."
"Isidro's panga, Paty (I think he may also have one or two others) is kept in top shape. He has been fishing these waters for years. If there are fish out there, Isidro will find them for you. He's also very safety conscious. I recall a time we were many miles from shore when the seas got pretty rough. We were catching fish and eager to stay out. Isidro, however, returned to shore because he didn't believe it was safe. If you want a great, affordable experience, you will not go wrong fishing with Isidro."
